Fire Prevention Week at the Milo School
Posted on October 10th, 2013
The Milo Volunteer Fire Department executed a surprise fire drill for staff and students today. They used a smoke machine to fill the main level of the school with smoke and set off the alarm. Seeing the smoke in the main stairwell our quick thinking staff and students had to alter their usual exit route. Even with this variation to routine the whole school was able to get out and rendezvous in under 5 minutes. Well done everyone!
Local fire fighters Byron Thompson, Danny Estrada and Travis Nelson set up a small course on the playground for our students to try while wearing fire fighting gear. It was a lot harder than it looked. Byron demonstrated how to properly use a body board and how to assist someone on a body board. The students received booklets to take home and a treat!
"Prevent Kitchen Fires” is this year’s theme. More fires start in the kitchen than any other part of the home.
